Expanded Senior Center Opens in Newton County

On September 14th, a jubilant crowd gathered outside the Josephine B. Brown Senior Center on Turner Lake Road to celebrate the opening of a new 2,973 square foot expansion that includes a banquet room, event space, classroom, and enrichment lab. The expansion came to reality after the Newton County Board of Commissioners approved funds from the 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

Sunbelt Builders is honored to have been selected for this important project, and proud to make another valuable contribution to our community.

Josephine Brown, in whose honor the center is named, served as director of Senior Services in Newton County for 57 years. Brown said she rejoiced in how far Senior Services has come over the years, from several “substandard” buildings to the expanded facility at Turner Lake Complex. “I had a dream that we wanted a place for seniors to come that would afford them a homelike atmosphere,” she said. “Today is the end of my part of my dream, because this is what I envisioned in my dream.”
